Burbank Recycling Inc is a materials recovery facility processing single-stream residual curbside for a half dozen cities in Los Angeles, Ventura and San Bernardino Counties. The commingled materials are sorted into more than a dozen different paper, plastic, glass and metal commodities using both automation and manual labor. How the materials are collected, whether in bins, banks or curbside collection, is immaterial to the efficiency. Compaction into bales is a huge advantage, which guarantees efficient collection payloads. This high-tech equipment is calibrated to pull out fibers which are unacceptable to the newsprint manufacturing industry, such as cardboard and Yellow Pages. This guarantees the highest standard of recovered newsprint into manufacturing, and also a high grade of mixed cardboard for the board mills. The MRF generates output material of a standard high enough to meet manufacturing quality specifications which, in turn, guarantees long term markets.
